BOTOX® Cosmetic in Whistler

Serving the Sea to Sky corridor from Whistler to Squamish to Vancouver, Whistler Medical Aesthetics sees patients every day for their BOTOX® Cosmetic needs.  BOTOX® Cosmetic is the ONLY FDA-approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines look better in adults. The common misconception among patients is that they shouldn’t get Botox until they really need Botox.

But, as Owner and Medical Director Dr. Sarah Kennea will tell you, the most satisfactory use of Botox is when people start to use Botox at the first sign of static lines.  A static line is a line you can see when the face is at rest. Because young people will rapidly heal those lines over the three-to-four-month window that the Botox is active, we can prevent those lines from ever developing. This is why Botox is described as preventative.

BOTOX® temporarily makes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines look better in adults. So you look like YOU, only with less noticeable facial lines.

How it works

From the moment we wake to the moment we fall asleep our facial muscles are moving consciously and subconsciously. Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause our skin to furrow and fold. Over time, this gradually results in the formation of facial lines. We are all different, so we all change to different degrees of severity.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults – to help them look visibly smoother.

Treatment requires minimal downtime. You can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave our office. You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, but typically noticeable results start after week 1, with optimal results occurring around 2-6 weeks. Results last up to 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines.

It matters who you see!

Patients need to research their injector’s credentials because they need to trust the injector. Would someone go to a dentist and tell them how much amalgam to use in a filling? No. Patients need to understand that everyone’s facial anatomy, rate of volume loss, muscle strength, static lines, etc., are different; therefore, patients can’t predict or determine how much Botox they need based on anecdotal evidence from the internet or ‘what a friend had done.’ Patients also need to be wary about discounts and price shopping.

Great injectors are busy injectors because their services are in demand. Warning Sign – If a clinic is offering discounted Botox, or the price is too good to be true….well it probably is. Either they can’t attract patients or they can’t retain them. Either way, that should be warning enough!

Myth: If you start using Botox, you will always need to use it: not true.
Truth: The fact is patients come to prefer their face with Botox! I often say to patients, even if they did Botox once or twice per year, you will still delay the progression of your static lines.

Myth: Botox leads to an emotionless, frozen face.
Truth: The frozen look likely results from excessive use of Botox in the lower face for issues that really should have been tackled with a dermal filler approach. I have many patients whose partners are completely unaware they have Botox regularly, as the results are so natural. We only use Botox in specific muscles to achieve a specific objective, e.g., in the forehead to treat forehead lines or in the frown to prevent frowning.
