Many years ago, scientists at Harvard University observed that some children who ate popsicles (lollies for the Brits reading!) developed dimples in their cheeks.
Two Doctors, Dieter Manstein and Rox Anderson, to realize that ice, can selectively damage small pockets of fat cells.
This concept that cold can target fat cells without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue was the insight behind cryolipolysis, the science in which Coolsculpting is based.
The Coolsculpting procedure, in its purest form, is the process of placing an applicator on the body and delivering precisely controlled cooling to target the fat cells underneath the skin.
These treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), destroyed, and then over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates those dead cells.
The results are literally a more sculpted you.
As you can see from the graph image above, the scientific study behind cryolipolysis and ZWave is very real. The above research has also revealed that results increase significantly when the ZWave application continues every four weeks after treatment.
At Whistler Medical Aesthetics every CoolSculpting patient will not receive additional complementary treatments of ZWave at the 4 weeks and 8-week points. We will also add a treatment at the 12-week point if it is considered to be beneficial on an individual basis.
So clearly, Coolsculpting is not just about science. Coolsculpting needs a real appreciation and understanding of what happens next. What happens if we move the applicator an inch left or right. What happens when symmetry is unequal. It needs real patient participation and planning, but most of all, it requires skill and experience.
Dr. Kennea leads our team, and Marni, our lead practitioner, has completed the advanced Coolsculpting Scholars training, AND the Coolsculpting Master’s accreditation.
Whistler Medical Aesthetics invested in a ZWave Pro Shockwave device, and replaced the manual hand massage commonly used by Coolsculpting practices, and introduced a Zwave shockwave massage. More comfortable, and far more effective.
Immediately patient outcomes improved exponentially. Patient feedback made it clear that the ZWave massage was infinitely more conformable than the dreaded hadn’t massage technique. So…win win.
Dr. Sarah Kennea is the Medical Director, owner and founder at Whistler Medical Aesthetics. She is one of seven physicians who form the Allergan Medical Faculty in Canada. She and her family are lucky enough to call Whistler, BC home.
Sarah recognizes the healing benefits of the natural world. Placing her clinic in Whistler was entirely deliberate, and gives her many city based patients a natural respite from the chaos of the city.
As a walk-in, walk-out treatment with little to no downtime, after your Coolsculpting session you are free to enjoy the incredible outdoors, hiking, biking, lakes, shopping, or dining experiences that only Whistler has to offer.
