Tixel

Tixel is a thermo-mechanical fractional resurfacing treatment that smooths texture, tone, and fine lines by triggering the skin's own collagen renewal, without a laser and with minimal downtime.

What Is Tixel, And How Does It Work?

Tixel uses a heated titanium tip, rather than a laser or radiofrequency energy, to create thousands of microscopic thermal channels across the skin's surface. Each pulse delivers precise, controlled heat that evaporates a fraction of the outer skin layer in a fractional pattern, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched to speed healing.

The critical distinction: because Tixel works through direct thermal contact rather than a specific light wavelength, it carries none of the pigment-related risks that ablative lasers can pose for certain skin tones, requires no protective eyewear, and produces no plume or fumes during treatment. That controlled micro-injury is what prompts the skin to repair itself by producing new collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for firmness and smoothness.

Each session takes approximately 20 to 45 minutes depending on the area and settings used. Topical numbing is available for higher-intensity sessions. Most treatment plans involve one to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, depending on the concern being addressed.

Is Tixel Worth It For You?

Tixel tends to be the ideal fit for those with:

  • Uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, or mild acne scarring
  • Early signs of sun damage or dull, uneven tone
  • A preference for minimal downtime over ablative laser resurfacing

Because it doesn't rely on light wavelength absorption, Tixel is considered suitable across a broader range of skin tones than many traditional ablative lasers, including for patients previously told resurfacing wasn't a safe option for their skin type. It's not designed for significant skin laxity, deep static wrinkles, or volume loss; those concerns are better served by injectables or a skin-tightening treatment. Patients with active skin infections or cold sores in the treatment area, who are pregnant, or who have used isotretinoin recently are asked to wait or reschedule.

Every patient begins with an assessment of skin type, sun exposure history, and the specific concerns driving the visit, so the number of sessions, intensity, and areas treated are built around the individual rather than a standard package.

What to Expect

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe a warm, prickling sensation rather than pain. Topical numbing can be used for higher-intensity settings.

What is the recovery?

Minimal. Redness and a sensation similar to mild sunburn for 24–48 hours, with some light flaking as the skin renews over the following days.

When will I see results?

Smoother, more even skin appears within about a week as redness resolves, with continued improvement over one to three months as new collagen builds.

Your Treatment Experience

We select a pulse duration and intensity matched to your skin type and the concern being treated, then apply the heated tip across the treatment area in a series of controlled pulses. Topical numbing is applied first for higher-intensity sessions.

Redness and a warmth similar to mild sunburn are expected for 24 to 48 hours afterward, with some light flaking as the skin renews over the following days; this is a normal part of the skin's repair response, not a complication. Most patients return to normal activity the same day or the next.

Improvement in texture and tone is progressive rather than immediate. Many patients notice smoother, more even skin within a week as initial redness resolves, with continued improvement over the following one to three months as new collagen builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

faq

This depends on your skin concern. A single session can refresh tone and texture, while acne scarring or sun damage typically responds best to a series of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.

Yes. Tixel is considered suitable for a broader range of skin tones than traditional ablative lasers, since it doesn't rely on light wavelength absorption. We'll still assess your skin individually at consultation.

Tixel uses direct thermal contact from a heated tip rather than light energy, which means no laser-related pigment risk, no protective eyewear, and typically less downtime than ablative laser treatments.

Avoid sun exposure and retinoids in the days leading up to your session. We'll walk through any specific prep at your consultation based on the areas and intensity planned.

Yes, depending on your goals. We can advise on sequencing Tixel alongside injectables or other skin-quality treatments.
